Alumni Afrika

ALUMNI AFRIKA


The ALUMNI AFRIKA community is aimed at all former students of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth, regardless of their department or year of graduation.
Graduates of any cultural and social science degree programmes related to Africa are welcome, including ethnology, sociology, cultural studies, geography, African history, curation and art (Iwalewahaus), Études Francophones, Anglophone literature and cultural studies, and linguistics and literary studies with a focus on Africa.

Bayreuth Beijing Alumni Network e.V. (BBA e.V.)

The University of Bayreuth and the Beijing Institute of Technology in Beijing offer students enrolled in the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration an exceptional opportunity: a German-Chinese double degree programme that awards them two academic degrees and provides valuable intercultural experience.

To maintain this unique connection beyond their studies, the Bayreuth Beijing Alumni (BBA) Network e.V. alumni association was established.

Bayreuth International Alumni Centre (BIAC)

Bayreuth International Alumni Centre (BIAC) – the global network of international graduates, scientists, students, friends, and supporters of the University of Bayreuth.

In order to take another step towards globalisation and intensify contact with international alumni, Bayreuth Alumni International has been an integral part of the International Office at the University of Bayreuth since 2011.

Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS)

More than 200 doctoral students have successfully completed their doctorates at the BIGSAS graduate school, which was founded in 2007 and has been part of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence since 2019.

The aim of BIGSAS is to bring together outstanding African and non-African scholars for joint research in the field of African studies.

European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS)

The European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree (EMJMD) that has been funded by the European Union from 2019 to 2025.

Four cohorts of “EIMASters”, made up of 62 students from 34 different countries around the world, have successfully completed their highly interdisciplinary and cross-faculty studies at the universities of Bayreuth, Bordeaux Montaigne and Porto.

PROFI & BIGA: Growing together


PROFI plus and BIGA Regio are further qualification programmes for international professionals. They focus on active career development in Germany and specialist topics related to STEM, digitalisation and planetary health. The alumni community ‘Growing Together’ connects graduates of the programmes and offers them the opportunity to stay in touch with each other and with the University of Bayreuth even after completing the programmes.

Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL)

The TGCL is a teaching and research centre between the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law and the University of Bayreuth.
We offer highly specialised master's and doctoral programmes for prospective lawyers from the partner countries of the East African Community to qualify them for leadership positions in the region.

Bayreuth Society for the United Nations (BGVN e.V.)

The Bayreuth Society for the United Nations (BGVN) is committed to representing the United Nations in Bayreuth. Only through multilateralism and discourse can peace be secured, human rights strengthened and sustainable development promoted.

The BGVN was founded in 2016 as Bayreuth Model United Nations e.V. It provides information and analysis on the work of the United Nations and offers a platform for members and Bayreuth Model United Nations alumni to engage in active dialogue and exchange.

Bayreuth University Association

The University Association was founded in 1970 with the aim of establishing the University of Bayreuth and providing conceptual and material support for its expansion. In order to promote the university's continued existence and further development, the University Association now performs the following tasks:

  • Supporting research and teaching where public funds
    are not available, not immediately available, or not available in sufficient quantities
  • Working to integrate the university into the region of north-eastern Bavaria and to promote its overall development
  • Maintaining the university's contacts with the citizens of the city of Bayreuth and the region of north-eastern Bavaria and promoting student life
